Lagos 2027: Deputy Governor Hamzat Kicks Off Gubernatorial Bid, Meets GAC Power Brokers
Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has officially kicked off consultations for a 2027 gubernatorial run, beginning with a high-level meeting with the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC).
In a social media post on Sunday, April 12, Hamzat confirmed the move, saying the session featured “sincere and insightful discussions on the future of Lagos and the leadership it demands.”
“I deeply value the wealth of experience and guidance shared,” Hamzat said. “This process is rooted in listening, learning, and collaborating to build a stronger and more prosperous Lagos.”
The meeting with GAC members signals an early but strategic start to the 2027 race, as the Deputy Governor seeks to consolidate support within the state’s political establishment.
The GAC is widely regarded as the apex advisory body of the ruling party in Lagos, making Hamzat’s outreach a significant first step in what is expected to be a closely watched contest.
