Lagos Govt Seals Access Bank Over Sewage Dumping.

The Lagos State Government has shut down a branch of Access Bank in Victoria Island after authorities accused the facility of discharging untreated human waste into public drainage channels.

Officials say the illegal dumping, which allegedly took place at the bank’s outlet on Land Bridge Avenue in the Oniru area, caused a persistent foul smell and contributed to environmental pollution in the neighbourhood.

The enforcement action was carried out on Wednesday night by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office during a joint inspection and compliance operation. After assessing the facility, environmental officers reportedly confirmed that untreated sewage was being channelled directly into the public drainage system, prompting the immediate sealing of the premises.

Authorities stated that the property would face penalties in line with Lagos environmental regulations.

In recent months, the state government has stepped up enforcement against businesses and property owners found violating sanitation and wastewater disposal laws. Officials warn that illegal sewage discharge not only pollutes the environment but also poses serious health risks and damages public infrastructure across the state.
