Last-Minute Relief for Taxpayers: Lagos Extends Income Tax Filing Deadline.
Taxpayers in Lagos have been given a bit more breathing space after the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service announced an extension of the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 14.
The decision comes after the agency had earlier directed residents to submit their tax returns for the 2026 year of assessment on or before March 31.
In a statement issued on Monday by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, head of corporate communications, the executive chairman of the agency, Ayodele Subair, explained that the extension was granted to give taxpayers extra time to complete and submit their returns properly.
Subair urged residents not to delay unnecessarily, stressing that filing tax returns on time should be treated as a regular civic responsibility.
He noted that the additional time is meant to help individuals submit accurate returns and avoid mistakes that could arise from rushing the process.
The LIRS boss also reminded taxpayers that all annual returns must now be filed electronically through the agency’s eTax platform, as manual submissions have been completely discontinued.
According to him, taxpayers are required to submit their returns only through the official portal, which he described as secure, easy to use, and available round the clock.
Subair further advised individuals to ensure their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly included when filing their returns.
He added that anyone needing help with the process can visit any LIRS office or contact the agency through its official communication channels.
