Multiple explosions rocked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Monday evening, March 16, around 7 pm, shortly after iftar, sending residents into panic.
The blasts targeted the Monday Market and the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), with reports of three explosions in total.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosions were loud and sudden, causing widespread fear among people in the affected neighbourhoods.
Security personnel and emergency responders were quickly deployed to the scene, and the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was on the ground conducting assessments.
The attacks are suspected to be carried out by Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, who have been known to plant Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the area.
The incident comes amid persistent concerns over the resurgence of insurgent activities in the region.
