Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council has approved a nationwide alphanumeric digital postcode system to modernise the country’s addressing framework.
The Geographic Information System (GIS)-enabled postcode platform aims to provide accurate and standardised location data, supporting growth in logistics, e-commerce, and emergency services.
The new system, developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), will replace inconsistent addresses with structured alphanumeric formats linked to geospatial coordinates.
This initiative is expected to improve mail and parcel sorting, reduce failed deliveries, and enhance emergency response times.
