Nigerian Man Babatunde Odutola Jailed in UK After Sexual Act on Train
36-year-old Babatunde Odutola sentenced to 44 weeks in prison after exposing himself and performing a sexual act in front of a woman on a train to Manchester.
Manchester, UK | A 36-year-old Nigerian man, Babatunde Odutola, has been sentenced to 44 weeks in prison in the United Kingdom after exposing himself and masturbating in front of a woman on a train travelling towards Manchester.
Odutola, who has no fixed address and is a registered sex offender, was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on September 14, after pleading guilty to outraging public decency and breaching a suspended sentence order.
The incident occurred at about 7 pm on September 11, while the train was travelling through Cheshire towards Manchester Piccadilly.
According to British Transport Police, Odutola approached a woman travelling alone and behaved aggressively after she refused to engage with him. Police said he then exposed himself while seated in a wheelchair and masturbated while looking at the woman and telling her to “come over.”
A fellow passenger intervened and escorted the distressed woman from the carriage.
CCTV footage reportedly showed Odutola continuing the act as other passengers passed through the carriage. British Transport Police officers arrested him after the train arrived at Manchester Piccadilly.
Police said CCTV footage and witness accounts formed key evidence in the case after Odutola initially denied the allegations during a police interview.
Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou said the incident had been terrifying for the victim and noted that Odutola was already a registered sex offender.
The case was dealt with within 72 hours of the incident, with Odutola receiving a total sentence of 44 weeks in prison.
