ABUJA: Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger collective efforts to protect schools, teachers and children from attacks, warning that any threat to educational institutions poses a danger to the country’s future.
The First Lady made the call on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in a message marking the 2026 International Day to Protect Education from Attack.
Oluremi Tinubu stressed the need for all stakeholders, including government authorities, security agencies, communities, parents and educational institutions, to work together to ensure that schools remain safe spaces for learning.
She warned that attacks on schools do more than damage buildings, noting that they disrupt children’s education, endanger teachers and create fear among families.
The First Lady maintained that protecting learning environments must remain a collective responsibility, particularly in communities facing security challenges.
She also emphasised the importance of safeguarding teachers, who play a critical role in shaping the future of Nigerian children.
According to her, children should be able to attend school without fear of violence, kidnapping or other forms of insecurity.
Her remarks come amid continued concerns over the safety of educational institutions in parts of Nigeria, where insecurity has previously disrupted schooling and exposed pupils and teachers to danger.
Oluremi Tinubu’s call reinforces the need for sustained investment in school security and stronger measures to protect children and education workers across the country.
She urged stakeholders to treat the protection of education as a national priority, stressing that securing schools is essential to securing Nigeria’s future.
