PDP Showdown: Wike Camp Defies Tension, Vows to Push Through Convention Amid Power Struggle.
The crisis tearing through the Peoples Democratic Party has escalated once again, as a faction linked to Nyesom Wike insists its planned national convention will go ahead — no matter the pressure or opposition.
Despite growing speculation about legal hurdles and internal resistance, the group says it has the backing of influential party heavyweights and is fully prepared to proceed with the gathering as scheduled.
In a fresh twist, the faction revealed that notable figures like Bukola Saraki and Sule Lamido have now thrown their weight behind the move, strengthening its position within the party.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, brushed aside reports suggesting a court order could stop the convention slated for Sunday, March 29.
According to him, such claims exist only in online speculation, stressing that nothing will derail the planned event.
He argued that unlike past disputed gatherings, this convention is grounded in due process and enjoys both legal backing and widespread support from party members.
Mohammed further claimed that several previously neutral stakeholders — including senators and members of the National Assembly — have now aligned with the faction, describing it as the dominant force within the party.
While admitting that disagreements still exist, he noted that dissenting voices are expected in a party of such size but maintained that the direction being taken is clear and legitimate.
He also assured members that all constitutional procedures have been followed, promising a convention that will be credible, transparent, and inclusive.
According to him, the National Caretaker Working Committee has made adequate preparations to ensure a smooth and peaceful exercise that reflects the collective will of party members.
Amid rising tension, he urged party faithful to remain calm and avoid actions that could disrupt the process, adding that efforts at reconciliation are still ongoing.
The PDP has been battling deep internal divisions in recent months, with rival factions competing for control as the party positions itself ahead of future elections.
