Nigerian music star, Niniola, has revealed that her husband, Michael Ndika, is dead a heartbreaking announcement that also exposed, for the first time, that the singer had secretly been married for over a decade.
The Grammy-nominated Afro-house singer shared the emotional news through a series of Instagram posts in the early hours of Wednesday, alongside photos of herself and her late husband.
“God took him,” she wrote in one of the posts.
In another short message, she added, “My husband died.”
A third post simply read: “God took him. 13 years.”
Niniola did not disclose the circumstances surrounding Ndika’s death, and no official cause of death had been confirmed as of the time of this report.
The singer has also not released any additional statement beyond the emotional messages shared on her Instagram Story.
Her final post appeared to suggest that the couple had been together for 13 years.
The revelation stunned fans and members of the entertainment industry, not only because of the reported death, but because it confirmed that Niniola had quietly kept her marriage away from the public throughout her rise to fame.
The 39-year-old singer had never publicly introduced or identified her husband during their relationship.
Ironically, during an interview on Yanga FM Lagos in October 2025, Niniola dismissed rumours that she was secretly married.
“I don’t care what anyone says about my personal life. I’m not a 12-year-old. I’m not married,” she said at the time.
Before his death, Michael Ndika served as the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia and digital entertainment platform focused on Afrobeats, Afro-house and African contemporary music.
Ndika, who reportedly held degrees in Computer Science from Lagos State University and Yaba College of Technology, maintained a private lifestyle similar to the singer.
Niniola gained national attention after emerging as one of the standout contestants on Project Fame West Africa in 2013.
She later became one of Nigeria’s leading Afro-house voices, earning global recognition with her 2017 hit single, Maradona, which attracted praise from international stars including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland and Beyoncé.
She is also the elder sister of Nigerian singer, Teni.
