Solomon Buchi is not happy with how Nigeria treated IShowSpeed during his trip to Africa.
IShowSpeed’s trip around Africa is still going strong, and his recent stop in Benin has people talking, especially in Nigeria.
After hanging out in Lagos, Nigeria, the YouTube star went to Benin. Videos from his time there quickly blew up online. Benin really seemed to go all out, showing off its culture with dances, masquerades, historical spots, and yummy local food.
These viral clips got the attention of Nigerian writer Solomon Buchi. He gave props to the Benin Tourism Agency for putting together such a great experience for IShowSpeed.
Buchi said Benin nailed it by making sure IShowSpeed got a good look at their culture, food, history, and cool places to visit. He said the videos made him realise how much Benin has to offer culturally.
But Buchi didn’t hold back when talking about how IShowSpeed’s visit to Nigeria was handled. In a pretty harsh post that’s been shared a lot, Buchi said the people who planned the Nigeria part of the trip didn’t do a good job of showing off Nigeria’s awesome culture and natural beauty. He argued that Nigeria has way more to offer than what IShowSpeed saw, pointing to beaches, caves, historical places, festivals, resorts, and nature reserves.
He even said that IShowSpeed’s time in Nigeria could have been way better if they had gotten the right people involved. Buchi mentioned travel filmmaker Tayo Aina as someone who could have been a good guide, food expert Opeyemi for taking him to great restaurants, and lifestyle influencer Enioluwa for introducing him to real Nigerian food. He thinks these people could have helped show a better picture of Nigerian culture to the world.
The comments on Buchi’s post were all over the place. A lot of people agreed with him, but others had their own ideas about who could have done a good job. Some thought Tobe could have taken IShowSpeed around Northern Nigeria to see its unique culture.
Buchi also responded to people who didn’t think the publicity mattered. He said IShowSpeed is one of the biggest internet stars out there, and these kinds of experiences shape how people see a place. He thinks it’s important how a country is seen around the world, especially when it comes to its culture.
