Terror in Zamfara: Bandits Kidnap Over 150 Villagers in Midnight Raid.
Panic swept through parts of Zamfara State after heavily armed bandits stormed two rural communities and carried out one of the largest mass abductions reported in the area in recent times.
Security operatives are now on the trail of the attackers after the gunmen reportedly whisked away scores of villagers during the coordinated assault.
The attackers invaded Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji in the Bukkuyum area on Thursday, spraying bullets at homes and vehicles before moving through the communities.
According to the local council chairman, Umar Abubakar Faru, more than 150 residents — mostly women and children — were seized during the attack and forced into nearby forest hideouts.
The sudden raid triggered chaos as terrified residents fled into surrounding areas for safety, leaving many homes abandoned.
Authorities have confirmed the attack but say they are still working to determine the exact number of people abducted.
In a statement, the Nigeria Police Force said a joint security team involving the police, military, and other agencies has been mobilised and is actively tracking the armed group responsible.
Police also revealed that several residents who managed to escape during the assault sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing as security forces attempt to locate the kidnapped victims.
For years, communities across northwest Nigeria have faced relentless attacks from armed groups involved in mass kidnappings and village raids. Many of these gangs are believed to operate from remote forest bases scattered across the region, making them difficult for security forces to track down.
