Welsh music icon, Bonnie Tyler, whose timeless hit, Total Eclipse of the Heart, became one of the biggest songs of the 1980s, has died at the age of 75.
Her family confirmed the sad news on Thursday, revealing that the singer passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday night at a hospital in Portugal, where she had been receiving treatment for an illness.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the family said: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”
Tyler, celebrated for her distinctive raspy voice and unforgettable performances, rose to global fame with chart-topping classics including Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero.
The Welsh singer’s death marks the end of a remarkable career that spanned decades and earned her millions of fans around the world. She remained one of Britain’s most recognisable voices and an enduring figure in international pop and rock music.
