Truecaller Lite Expands Caller ID and Scam Protection to Millions of Android Users Across Nigeria
Lightweight 10MB app brings caller identification and fraud protection to millions of Nigerians using entry-level Android smartphones.
LAGOS, NIGERIA – June 10, 2026 — Global caller identification and spam-blocking platform, Truecaller, has announced the expansion of Truecaller Lite, a lightweight mobile application designed specifically for entry-level Android smartphones, bringing enhanced caller identification and scam protection to millions of users across Nigeria.
Nigeria was among the first countries selected for the launch of Truecaller Lite, with feedback from Nigerian users helping shape the product before its wider rollout across eleven additional markets in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
The new app is aimed at users of entry-level Android devices, which remain the most commonly used smartphones in Nigeria. Unlike the main Truecaller application, Truecaller Lite was developed from the ground up as a separate product optimised for devices with limited storage, memory, and processing power.
At just 10MB in size, the app offers essential features including caller identification, spam and fraud blocking, number search, contacts management, and default dialer functionality. Despite its smaller footprint, Truecaller says Lite delivers the same level of protection as the main application by utilising the company’s extensive global database.
According to the company, more than 68 billion spam and fraud calls were identified worldwide through its platform in 2025 alone.
The launch comes at a critical time as fraud and unwanted communications continue to rise across Nigeria. Data released by the company revealed that Nigeria was Africa’s most spammed country in 2025, with 51 per cent of unknown calls received by users classified as spam or fraudulent.
Speaking on the expansion, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Chief Executive Officer of Truecaller, emphasised the importance of making digital security accessible to everyone, regardless of the device they own.
“Safe communication should not depend on the phone you have. The next billion users live in markets where entry-level devices are often the norm. Truecaller Lite was built specifically for them while providing the same protection from spam and fraud that users expect from Truecaller worldwide.”
Following successful launches in Nigeria and Colombia earlier this year, Truecaller Lite is now expanding to Kenya, Ghana, Algeria, Chile, Egypt, Iraq, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. The company also indicated that additional launches across emerging markets are planned in the coming months.
In Nigeria, the application is available for download through the Google Play Store and the Transsion app store on compatible Android devices.
