One hundred Nigerians have been brought back home from Algeria as part of an ongoing voluntary return initiative coordinated by government and international partners. The returnees arrived in Lagos on Wednesday, where officials received them and began reintegration procedures.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that the group was received by its Lagos Operations Office in partnership with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons and the International Organization for Migration.
According to the agency, the returnees landed around 2:40 p.m. on March 25, 2026, at the cargo terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport aboard an Air Algerie flight.
The group included 96 adults (77 men and 19 women) as well as four infants.
On arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service carried out biometric registration and documentation to properly profile the returnees and support their reintegration.
NEMA added that immediate humanitarian assistance was provided in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to a safe and dignified return process. This included food, clean drinking water, medical attention, ambulance services, and logistical support for their belongings, alongside counselling and coordination services.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment, alongside its partners, to continue supporting returnees as they settle back into society through structured humanitarian interventions.
