Kanye West Ban Triggers Shock Cancellation of Major UK Festival.
The 2026 edition of the Wireless Festival has been abruptly cancelled after controversial rapper, Kanye West – now legally known as Ye – was blocked from entering the UK.
British authorities reportedly denied the rapper entry following renewed outrage over his past antisemitic remarks. Ye had applied to visit the country through an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) on Monday, but officials later stepped in to revoke the approval.
Festival organisers confirmed that the event, originally scheduled for July, will no longer take place. Ticket holders have been assured that full refunds will be issued.
In a statement, the organisers explained that the UK Home Office withdrew Ye’s travel authorisation, leaving the festival unable to proceed as planned. They added that consultations were carried out with stakeholders before booking the rapper and no objections were raised at the time. However, they stressed that antisemitism in any form is unacceptable and acknowledged the hurt the controversy has caused.
Ye himself has recently indicated that he wants to engage with members of the UK’s Jewish community, saying he hopes to start a meaningful dialogue.
Sources say the travel permit may have first been granted automatically online but was later cancelled by ministers after a review concluded that allowing him into the country would not be in the public interest.
The rapper has faced heavy criticism in recent years for a series of antisemitic comments, including controversial praise for Adolf Hitler. He also stirred backlash with a song titled “Heil Hitler” and by promoting clothing featuring Nazi symbols.
Earlier this year, Ye attempted to make amends by publishing a full-page apology in the The Wall Street Journal, attributing his past behaviour to struggles with bipolar disorder. On Tuesday, he reiterated his willingness to meet and listen to members of the Jewish community in the UK.
The controversy also drew criticism from UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, who described the decision to book Ye as “deeply concerning,” given the rapper’s history of antisemitic remarks and references to Nazi ideology.
With the headliner barred just months before the event, organisers were left scrambling to find replacements for three major performance slots – an almost impossible task in the already packed summer festival calendar.
Ye now joins a list of high-profile American entertainers who have faced entry bans into the UK at different times. Among them are Snoop Dogg, who was refused entry in 2007 after an airport incident, lifestyle icon, Martha Stewart, following a legal conviction, and rapper Tyler, the Creator, who was barred for several years over controversial lyrics before the restriction was lifted in 2019.
