Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday night hosted a State Banquet in honour of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, celebrating his journey from the streets of Lagos Island to the helm of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement posted to his official X account, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Disu’s rise through the ranks as “inspiring,” noting that the IGP’s values of discipline, service, and integrity were forged in Lagos.
“Long before the world knew him as IGP, Lagos knew him,” Governor Sanwo-Olu wrote via his X account. “The streets of this city shaped him. The lecture halls of the Lagos State University refined him, and the communities of Lagos Island where he was born taught him early lessons about life, responsibility and service.”
The Governor highlighted Disu’s tenure leading the Lagos Rapid Response Squad, RRS, where he “strengthened security and built public confidence,” before taking on national assignments.
“His journey reminds us that greatness comes from hard work, integrity, and service,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said. “Lagos does not just raise dreamers. We raise people who lead and build.”
Celebrating ‘The Lagos Spirit’
The banquet, held at the State House, was framed as a celebration of both personal achievement and Lagos values.
“Tonight was a celebration of service and the Lagos spirit,” the Governor stated. “We are proud that the values he carries to the Force Headquarters were shaped here and proud that he continues to represent us with discipline and honour.”
Sanwo-Olu closed his tribute with a nod to the IGP’s reputation: “Here’s to the OG Good Guy of the Good Guys, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, son of Lagos and servant of Nigeria.”
IGP Disu, a Lagos Island native and LASU alumnus, was appointed Inspector-General of Police in 2025 after a career spanning state and federal policing, including intelligence and tactical operations.
