Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has publicly appealed to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, asking for forgiveness over any offence he may have caused during their political dealings.
Elliot made the emotional apology during an appearance on TVC’s Your View on Friday, insisting that any disagreement between them was never intentional.
The Surulere lawmaker described Gbajabiamila as both a political mentor and elder brother, saying he learned the ropes of politics under his guidance.
His remarks come months after tensions linked to the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis reportedly strained relationships within the All Progressives Congress in Lagos.
During the political standoff, Gbajabiamila had revealed that he almost lost his position as Chief of Staff to the President after allegations surfaced linking Elliot to moves surrounding the Assembly speakership battle.
According to Gbajabiamila, President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports allegedly connecting Elliot to the crisis — claims he denied at the time.
Speaking during the television interview, Elliot acknowledged that misunderstandings and emotions may have played a role in the fallout.
“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my ègbọ̀n. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.
The actor-turned-politician added that mistakes are inevitable in political relationships and appealed for forgiveness.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” Elliot said.
He also extended the apology to whom he described as the “matriarch of Surulere.”
“To the matriarch of Surulere, Mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” he added.
Despite the controversy, Elliot maintained that he remains committed to strengthening the Party and serving his constituency.
“But I will keep keeping the Party strong. And to all Surulerians, my scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place,” he said.
The Lagos Assembly leadership crisis had sparked serious internal tensions within the APC before Party leaders eventually stepped in to resolve the dispute.
