The Centre for School Health Education and Environmental Hygiene (CSHEEH) marked the 2026 World Oral Health Day with awareness activities at LEA Primary and Junior Secondary School, Sabon-Lugbe, Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The event, held in collaboration with the Nigerian Dental Association (NDA), FCT Chapter, and supported by Unilever and partners, aimed to promote oral hygiene awareness among pupils.
“The 2026 theme, ‘A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,’ highlights the link between oral health and overall well-being and healthy living,” said Dr Folasade Momoh, CSHEEH Executive Director.
Pupils received education on oral health, demonstrations on proper brushing techniques, and practical steps for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
Dental screening was conducted, and individuals diagnosed with dental issues were referred for further care. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and educational materials were distributed to promote healthy habits.
“The association regularly visits schools across the FCT during World Oral Health Day to educate pupils on dental care and promote preventive practices,” said Dr Sopuruchi Nweke, General Secretary of the Nigerian Dental Association, FCT Chapter.
The event emphasised the importance of collective efforts to prioritise children’s oral health and promote healthy lifestyles.
