One of the civil society organisations monitoring the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, the Impact Development Initiative (KDI), has said early findings from its Election Day Data Room show that the exercise has, so far, been largely orderly and well-organised despite a number of operational setbacks.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, KDI Executive Director, Bukola Idowu, said while the election process has remained functional across most parts of the State, persistent challenges such as delays in the arrival of election officials and materials, late commencement of accreditation and voting, as well as issues with election technology, were observed.
According to her, the organisation’s findings indicate that the major concern was not widespread disruption but the combined effect of several smaller operational shortcomings recorded in different locations across the State.
“The evidence suggests that the principal challenge facing election administration in Ekiti has not been the occurrence of isolated major disruptions but the cumulative impact of multiple smaller operational constraints across different parts of the State,” she said.
Idowu disclosed that KDI would continue monitoring voting, voter experience, election security, ballot integrity, polling unit result management and the collation process.
She added that the organisation’s final assessment would combine election-day observations with post-election verification and forensic analysis to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the integrity, inclusiveness and credibility of the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election.
According to her, KDI received verified reports from 384 observation locations across Ekiti State on the arrival of election officials and voting materials.
She said the analysis showed that 52.3 per cent of polling units recorded early or on-time arrival of election officials, while 47.7 per cent experienced late arrival based on the official benchmark of 7:30 a.m.
Idowu further explained that KDI assessed the commencement of accreditation and voting using 8:45 a.m. as the benchmark for timely poll opening.
Analysis of 318 verified reports, she said, revealed that 84.0 per cent of polling units commenced voting on schedule, while 16.0 per cent opened later than the stipulated time.
She also noted that reports from observers indicated that the election environment remained generally peaceful across the monitored locations.
KDI reaffirmed that it would sustain its observation of the voting process, voter experience, election security, ballot integrity, polling unit result management and collation, while its final report would integrate election-day findings with post-election verification and forensic analysis to deliver a comprehensive assessment of the credibility, inclusiveness and integrity of the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election.
