Two people lost their lives in the early hours of Thursday after a fatal road crash involving a truck and a commercial bus at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere/J4 corridor of the Sagamu/Ore Expressway in Ogun State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, said the accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m., leaving two occupants dead, while two others escaped without injuries.
The agency blamed the crash on route violation and excessive speeding, warning motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, said the crash involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.
According to him, four adult male occupants were involved in the accident. Two people died, while the remaining two survived unhurt.
“Preliminary findings by the FRSC suggest route violation and excessive speeding,” Odunsi said.
The FRSC disclosed that the force of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, completely burning its front section.
Odunsi said FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately began rescue and traffic control operations.
He added that traffic was diverted to an alternative carriageway to ease congestion while efforts were made to remove the wreckage from the expressway.
The FRSC also said officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, evacuated the bodies of the deceased and deposited them in a mortuary.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to comply strictly with traffic rules.
He cautioned drivers against speeding and route violations, especially during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads, stressing that reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public awareness campaigns and prompt emergency response operations.
