Lagos State Police Command teamed up with POCACOV and Apapa-Iganmu LCDA on Thursday, May 28, to mark 2026 Children’s Day with a strong message for students: stay away from violence, cultism, and drugs.
Held at Iganmu Senior Secondary School, the sensitization programme brought together pupils from public and private schools across Orile and Iganmu. The theme was “Your Future Is Not for Sale; Say No to Violence, Cultism and Drug Abuse.”
Representing CP Tijani Fatai, Orile DPO CSP Ogunleti Phillips said the Command is pushing “preventive policing” through advocacy and mentorship to keep youths on the right path.
Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Chairman Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu backed the move, calling for more collaboration between government, traditional rulers, and security agencies.
Bashorun of Ojora-Apapa Kingdom, Chief Hakeem Ojora, who stood in for Oba Abdulfatai Aromire, told students to stay disciplined and focused. POCACOV Lagos Coordinator SP Olivia Amarachi Ugochukwu warned them against cult groups, drug abuse, fraud and other vices, urging hard work and good company instead.
The event ended with students pledging to make responsible choices and be good citizens. Police say the push for community-based, youth-focused crime prevention will continue across Lagos.
