Former Minister of Science and Technology and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Enugu State election, Godfrey Uche Nnaji, is expected to be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, July 13, 2026, over alleged corruption-related offences.
The case is scheduled to come before Justice Abdulmalik Joyce, with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) set to prosecute after concluding months of investigation.
Sources familiar with the matter disclosed on Saturday that the anti-graft agency wrapped up its investigation after acting on a petition reportedly submitted by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre).
According to one of the sources, Nnaji was arrested at an airport after investigators alleged that he repeatedly failed to honour invitations from the Commission.
“The ICPC lead investigator has assured of a watertight case against the former Minister,” the source said.
The planned arraignment follows Nnaji’s arrest by the ICPC on July 1, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while he was arriving in Nigeria. The Commission said the arrest was carried out in execution of a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court.
In a statement signed by its Head of Media and Public Communications, J. Okor Odey, the ICPC said the operation was carried out with the support of the Department of State Services (DSS), which subsequently handed the former Minister over to the Commission for further investigation.
The anti-corruption agency said it had earlier invited Nnaji for questioning through a letter dated May 15, 2026, delivered to his known addresses in Abuja and Enugu, as well as his email address, but alleged that he failed to honour the invitations.
According to the Commission, his failure to appear prompted it to obtain a bench warrant from the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The warrant was granted on June 11, 2026, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1160/2026, authorising the Commission to arrest him as part of its ongoing investigation.
The ICPC said Nnaji is being investigated over allegations involving the forgery of academic and national service credentials, including an alleged forged degree certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and an alleged fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate reportedly submitted during his ministerial screening in 2023.
Following his arrest, the Commission said the former Minister was taken into custody at its headquarters in Abuja, where investigations continued, assuring the public that the case would be pursued in accordance with the law.
