CIS President Fiona Ahimie Unveils Bold Reform Agenda, Targets N5bn Fund for Capital Market Growth

Nigeria’s financial services sector could be heading into a new phase of institutional reform following the unveiling of an ambitious leadership agenda by the newly inaugurated President of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Dr. Fiona Ahimie.

Ahimie, who recently became the institute’s 14th President and notably its first female leader, announced a wide-ranging strategy aimed at repositioning the organization as a stronger force within Nigeria’s evolving capital market ecosystem.

The newly introduced reform blueprint focuses on expanding the institute’s national presence, improving the professional recognition of its certifications, increasing member engagement, and strengthening long-term financial sustainability.

A major highlight of the agenda is the planned establishment of a N5 billion endowment fund, designed to support the development of future professionals and provide funding for initiatives that advance the country’s investment and securities industry.

Speaking during her inauguration, Ahimie stressed the importance of collective effort in driving institutional growth and modernizing the profession for future generations.

According to her, the institute’s future success will depend on its ability to evolve beyond its past achievements and adapt to changing realities within the financial sector.

One of the administration’s priorities is increasing awareness and acceptance of professional certifications issued by the institute while encouraging broader participation from young professionals interested in building careers within Nigeria’s capital market.

The reform agenda also includes plans to expand the institute’s reach beyond Nigeria by strengthening regional collaborations and creating stronger partnerships across Africa’s growing financial sector.

Industry observers believe the move signals a renewed effort to deepen professionalism, improve standards, and strengthen investor confidence within Nigeria’s investment landscape.

With the new leadership now in place, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how these reforms shape the future of the country’s stockbroking profession and the wider capital market in the coming years.

“The relevance of our Institute is not fixed by our past but determined by our collective courage in the present. We can and will strengthen our Institute and expand across this nation.” — Dr. Fiona Ahimie.
