Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Thursday officially submitted their African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general election.
Both frontline aspirants arrived at the Party’s national secretariat in Abuja on May 14, 2026, marking a major step in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive race within the opposition Party.
In a post shared on X, Atiku described the move as a defining moment in what he called a mission to restore prosperity and rebuild Nigeria.
“The march to restore prosperity and better days to our beloved nation took a firm and decisive step forward today at the National Secretariat of our great Party, the African Democratic Congress,” he wrote.
He added that his ambition goes beyond politics, describing it as a “national movement” aimed at rescuing Nigeria from hardship and urging citizens across all regions and backgrounds to join the cause.
Amaechi, also speaking via X, confirmed his own submission of the nomination form, declaring his intention to “salvage” the country.
“Today, I submitted my Presidential nomination forms at the ADC Secretariat, officially throwing my hat in the ring to salvage our country, Nigeria,” he stated.
He further promised a campaign focused on restoring dignity, unity, peace, and economic progress.
The ADC had earlier released its timetable for the 2026 primary elections, setting the stage for a tightly packed internal contest.
According to the schedule, State Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate primaries will begin on May 21, 2026, followed by governorship primaries on May 22, while the presidential primary is slated for May 25, 2026.
