The 6th edition of the Run Club Abuja (RCA) Charity Half Marathon has raised N12.4 million to procure life-saving neonatal equipment for two public hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, the nation’s capital.
In a statement signed by Jonathan Ameh of the Media and Publicity Committee, RCA President Buchi Onyebule said the funds raised from the race held on Saturday, July 11, will go toward buying incubators, nebulisers, and resuscitators.
The equipment will be donated to selected public hospitals in Abaji and Kuje Area Councils.
Saving Newborn Lives
Onyebule said the intervention is aimed at bridging gaps in newborn care and reducing infant mortality in underserved communities across Abuja.
“For years, many primary health facilities in these areas have struggled with inadequate neonatal equipment. This donation will directly improve access to specialised care for newborns and give more babies a fighting chance,” he said.
He added that participation in the annual charity run has continued to grow, with runners, corporate sponsors, and health advocates turning out in large numbers.
“Each year we see more people join us, not just to run, but to support a cause that saves lives. That growing support shows Nigerians believe in giving back to their communities,” Onyebule stated.
Community Impact
Since its inception, the RCA Charity Half Marathon has become one of Abuja’s leading sports-for-good initiatives, combining fitness with fundraising for critical health needs.
Organisers say the 2025 edition recorded one of its highest turnouts yet, with proceeds fully earmarked for healthcare interventions in rural FCT communities.
The neonatal equipment is expected to be delivered and installed in the beneficiary hospitals in the coming weeks.
