The Bauchi State House of Assembly has been plunged into grief following the death of the lawmaker representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Wanzam Zaki, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday after a brief illness.
The sad announcement was made by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, who confirmed the legislator’s passing and described it as a painful loss to the Assembly and the State.
Until his death, Wanzam served as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, a position through which he played a major role in the State’s legislative and budgetary processes.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the Speaker paid tribute to the late lawmaker, describing him as a dedicated public servant who carried out his legislative duties with commitment, diligence and an unwavering sense of responsibility.
Suleiman said Wanzam made remarkable contributions to the work of the Assembly and remained steadfast in promoting the interests of his constituents and the overall development of Bauchi State.
He also prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased, grant him eternal rest, and give his family, friends and the people of Sakwa Constituency the strength to cope with the loss.
The statement further disclosed that the funeral prayer for the late legislator would be held on Sunday at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi.
Governor Bala Mohammed also mourned the lawmaker, describing his death as a huge loss to Bauchi State and its people.
In a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor said Wanzam lived a life of humility, integrity and selfless service to the people.
He noted that the late legislator earned widespread respect from colleagues and members of the public through his dedication to good governance and the welfare of the people.
According to the Governor, Wanzam made significant contributions to legislative oversight and budget matters, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.
“We have lost a dependable legislator, a bridge-builder and a committed servant of the people whose contributions to the development of Bauchi State will be remembered,” the Governor said.
Governor Mohammed extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Sakwa Constituency, the Katagum Emirate Council, and members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
