Brazilian Woman Arrested at Abuja Airport Over ₦3 Billion Heroin Seizure

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) caught a Brazilian woman, Ingrid Rosa Benevides, trying to sneak h£roin worth over N3 billion into Nigeria.

Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, said they arrested the 30-year-old on Friday, January 23, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, after getting a tip.

Benevides came in on a Qatar Airways flight QR1431 from Brazil. When officers checked her two bags, they found 21 packs that looked like they were sealed at the factory and labelled as Brazilian coffee. But when they looked closer, it wasn’t coffee inside—it was a white substance.

The agency also mentioned that the suspect, who works as a security guard in Brazil, said she was just coming to Nigeria for vacation and didn’t know about the h£roin.
