At least three people lost their lives in a violent ambush by unidentified gunmen in Nyamgo Gyel, sparking renewed fears over worsening insecurity in the region.
The victims — Luka Sandu Pam (36), Samuel Davou (38), and Deme Saidu (35) — were reportedly attacked while returning home from Gero on a motorbike, part of a group of around 15 youths, according to Dung Davou.
Davou told Channels Television the youths were ambushed suddenly, allegedly by armed herdsmen, forcing the survivors to flee. “We started hearing sporadic gunshots, and everyone scattered. Unfortunately, three of our people were killed,” he said, urging authorities to act swiftly against repeated attacks on the community.
The attack comes just three days after President Bola Tinubu visited Jos, heightening concerns about the state’s fragile security situation. Last Sunday, over 10 people were killed in a separate raid on Angwan Rukuba, leaving multiple others injured.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Caleb Mutfwang said the recent ambush caught both residents and security personnel off guard, noting that attackers studied local routines and mimicked NDLEA operations to strike unexpectedly.
Describing the incident as “unfortunate and worrisome,” Mutfwang expressed confidence that such attacks remain isolated, but warned that vigilance must be maintained to protect the community.
