Sanwo-Olu Appoints Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi as New LASU Vice-Chancellor
Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi will succeed Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor is coming to an end.
LAGOS, Nigeria: Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
The appointment was announced by the Lagos State Government on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Professor Badejo, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, is expected to take over the leadership of the university following the completion of the five-year tenure of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, who is retiring at the expiration of her tenure.
Born on August 4, 1962, Professor Badejo has an academic background in Guidance and Counselling. She
obtained both her Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Her appointment places her at the helm of one of Nigeria’s leading universities as LASU continues to expand its academic, research and institutional programmes.
The Lagos State Government said the appointment was approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
The announcement was signed by Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, on September 9, 2026.
