Afrobeats king Davido clapped back yesterday at Hausa praise singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara, dragging him as a “useless man” after Rarara knocked his campaign for the kidnapped Oyo schoolchildren.
The drama started on June 10 during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles. Davido hit the stage wearing a custom leather jacket boldly printed with “Bring Them Home” and the names of 40+ students and teachers kidnapped on May 15 in Oriire LGA, Oyo State.
Rarara, a known APC loyalist, didn’t like the move. In a video on his verified Facebook page, he slammed Davido’s gesture as “baric” and “foolish”. The singer argued that Davido was damaging Nigeria’s image by taking a sensitive security issue to a global stage.
“How can you broadcast Ansaru/terrorism problems to the whole world?” Rarara asked. He also claimed Davido’s action was political, tying it to the singer’s family background and upcoming elections. He compared it to “washing your mother’s dirty linen in public.”
Davido didn’t let it slide. The “Unavailable” hitmaker clapped back online, mocking Rarara’s name with “Debidooo” and dropping a full open letter in Hausa.
In the letter, Davido wrote: “Useless man @daudakahutararara… Any Nigerian with love for this country cannot stay silent on insecurity.” He stressed that citizens must speak up for victims without letting politics cloud national interest, urging everyone to “fear God” in their actions.
The online fight has now divided Nigerians. On X and Facebook, fans are backing Davido for using his platform to demand justice for the Oriire victims. Others are agreeing with Rarara that national security issues should be handled quietly to protect the country’s reputation.
Northern voices like singer Mr 442 have also distanced themselves from Rarara’s position, showing the debate is cutting across ethnic and political lines.
As of press time, neither Davido nor Rarara has posted further statements, but the hashtag #BringThemHome continues to trend.
Bottom line: When it comes to kidnapped children, Davido says silence is not an option. Rarara says image comes first. Nigerians are choosing sides.
