Femi Azeez announced himself in spectacular fashion on his Nigeria debut, scoring twice to inspire the Super Eagles to a commanding victory over Zimbabwe and seal a place in the Unity Cup final.
The Millwall forward wasted no time making his mark, firing Nigeria ahead within the opening five minutes before adding his second shortly after the break to cap a memorable first appearance in national colours.
Azeez’s performance helped the Super Eagles maintain their flawless record in the Unity Cup, a tournament Nigeria has won in all three previous editions.
The team will now battle either Jamaica or India in Saturday’s final at The Valley Stadium, home ground of Charlton Athletic.
Tuesday’s clash had carried extra tension following the two sides’ recent CAF World Cup qualifying encounters, where Nigeria were held to frustrating 1-1 draws on both occasions.
Zimbabwe’s role in denting Nigeria’s qualification hopes had remained a major talking point before kick-off, but the Super Eagles responded emphatically on neutral ground with a dominant display to settle old scores.
Zimbabwe will now feature in the third-place play-off scheduled to take place on the same day as the final.
