The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 suspected cultists and recovered five firearms during coordinated raids across six locations in the state.
The operations, carried out in Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Okoko, Ilasan, Ogba, and Iju, were part of Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai’s drive to stamp out cultism and violent crime.
According to the Command, four suspects were picked up in Ikorodu following intelligence linking them to cult-related activities. Preliminary findings suggest ties to the Buccaneers Confraternity, also known as Sea Lords.
Nine suspects were arrested during a raid on a criminal hideout in Lagos Island, while five others were apprehended in Ilasan in connection with the killing of a man identified as Emmanuel Obioson.
In Okoko, one suspect linked to the Eiye Confraternity was intercepted with a firearm. Four more suspects were arrested in Ogba and Iju for alleged involvement in illegal cult gatherings, assault, and other violent crimes. Weapons used in the attacks were recovered, and victims are currently receiving medical attention.
Exhibits recovered during the statewide crackdown include five locally made pistols, one toy pistol, 15 live cartridges, three expended cartridges, a police camouflage face cap, an army camouflage face cap, and a jack knife with its pouch.
CP Fatai restated the Command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and violent crimes. He urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police with timely and credible information.
