Residents of Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into panic early Monday, March 23, after a bomb went off in the community, raising fresh worries about safety in the area. Casualty figures remain unclear, though there are fears of possible deaths as authorities continue to assess the situation.
The explosion comes just weeks after a series of deadly attacks in nearby communities, which had drawn attention from the Federal Government. In February, Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the area, leading a delegation to Kaiama to commiserate with victims of earlier attacks in Nuku and Woro, while assuring residents that steps were being taken to restore peace.
During that visit, Shettima relayed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to stabilising the region, announcing the deployment of additional troops and emergency relief efforts through the National Emergency Management Agency in partnership with the state government. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had also confirmed that security personnel were already on the ground under Operation Savannah Shield.
However, Monday’s incident has renewed anxiety among residents, raising questions about the impact of recent security measures and highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of communities in the area.
