Iyabo Obasanjo Returns to PDP Days After Dumping APC

Former senator cites exclusion and disrespect in APC as she moves back to PDP ahead of 2027 Ogun governorship race.

Former Ogun Central Senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, is set to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just days after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

According to sources close to the former senator, preparations are underway for her formal return to the PDP, with reports indicating that a joint political rally involving Iyabo Obasanjo and former governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu may be held in Abeokuta.

Iyabo Obasanjo resigned from the APC on June 8, citing what she described as persistent disrespect, exclusion, and unfair treatment by the party’s leadership in Ogun State. She also expressed dissatisfaction with the consensus process that produced Solomon Adeola as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

The move marks another significant shift in Ogun State’s political landscape as parties begin positioning for the 2027 general elections. Political observers believe her return could strengthen the PDP’s prospects in the state, given her political experience and influence.
