Heads up, Lagos! There will be some traffic changes this Sunday, January 11, from 5 AM to 2 PM because of the Eko 170 Cycling Race.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, said that Dynastar Sport and Education Foundation is putting on the race, and there will be two routes.
The 70km route kicks off at Eko Atlantic, then goes through Ahmadu Bello Way, Coastal Road, Okun-Ajah Community Road, Ogombo Road, Abraham Adesanya Junction, Lekki-Epe Expressway, and Sangotedo, before heading back to Eko Atlantic.
The 170km route also starts at Eko Atlantic. It follows the same roads as the 70km route at first, but then it goes on to Epe T-Junction, Ita Marun Junction, Poka-Araga Road, Oke Osho Junction, and Temu Road before circling back to Eko Atlantic.
To keep things moving, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other security agencies will watch all the roads, crossings, and spots where roads meet along the routes. They’ll make sure no one goes where they shouldn’t. Osiyemi mentioned that the roads won’t be totally closed, and he’s asking drivers to work with the traffic people.
These steps are to keep everyone safe during the race, both the cyclists and people using the roads.
This race is all about getting people involved in cycling, showing off Lagos, and getting people to live healthily. The government also said the race will put a spotlight on Lagos’ cool buildings, beaches, and cool places.
