Lagos Police Deploy ‘Sweepers Squad’ to Ikorodu After Surge in Crime Reports
The Lagos State Police Command has rolled out a new tactical unit in Ikorodu to respond to mounting complaints about criminal activity in the area.
The ‘Command Sweepers Squad’ was inaugurated on Sunday, May 25,, by Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai. The unit is a temporary intervention force created to target hotspots and restore confidence among residents in Ikorodu and nearby communities.
The squad pulls personnel from multiple units within the command, including the Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, and Police Mobile Force units 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF. Officers from other security agencies and the Civilian Joint Task Force are also part of the operation.
To improve response times, the squad is based in Ijede, giving it quicker access across Ikorodu and surrounding areas. Its focus will be on intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search duties, and visible patrols in areas identified as criminal hideouts.
The command said the unit has been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently provided by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.

The deployment comes after weeks of public outcry over rising incidents of robbery, cultism, and other crimes in parts of Ikorodu.
