LAGOS, August 26, 2026: The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its engagement with young people as Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, PSC, mnips, led a Peace Walk to commemorate International Youth Day 2026 and launch a campaign against political and digital thuggery.
The event, held under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” brought together youth organisations, community stakeholders and strategic partners in a renewed effort to promote peace, responsible citizenship and national development.
The campaign aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to strengthen police-community partnerships and position young people as key partners in maintaining peace and security.
Among those who participated were representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), and National Association of Online Social and News Publishers (NAOSNP).
The Peace Walk was used to sensitise youths on the dangers of political and digital thuggery, drug abuse, cultism and hooliganism.
The police urged young people to reject violence and other forms of criminality while embracing peaceful engagement, responsible use of social media and positive participation in their communities.
The Command also stressed that meaningful police-community partnerships are essential to creating a safer Lagos, particularly as young people remain an important part of the state’s social and economic development.
The launch of the Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery is expected to deepen awareness among young Nigerians about the consequences of using digital platforms to promote violence, intimidation and criminal activities.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with youth organisations and other stakeholders to promote peace, security and responsible citizenship across the state.
