A new chapter has begun at Randle General Hospital, Surulere, following the appointment of Dr. Lateefat Omolara Agbaje as the facility’s new Medical Director by the Lagos State Government.
Dr. Agbaje, a highly experienced healthcare administrator and medical professional, has officially assumed leadership of one of Lagos State’s busiest public health institutions, bringing with her years of experience in clinical practice, hospital management and healthcare development.
Before her latest appointment, Dr. Agbaje served as the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of General Hospital, Apapa, where she was widely credited with driving improvements in service delivery, patient accessibility and operational efficiency. She assumed office at the Apapa facility in July 2024 after succeeding Dr. Keshinro Ajibola. During her tenure, she spearheaded initiatives aimed at repositioning the hospital, including restructuring clinics for easier patient access, strengthening community health outreach programmes and attracting strategic support for healthcare infrastructure upgrades.
Her redeployment to Randle General Hospital took effect on Monday, May 18, 2026, as part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership across its public health institutions.
Dr. Agbaje succeeds Dr. Olumide Sojinrin, who has been redeployed to another government establishment within the State after overseeing significant improvements at the Surulere-based hospital. Under Sojinrin’s leadership, Randle General Hospital received commendations from the Lagos State Health Service Commission for its quality healthcare delivery, infrastructure improvements and operational performance.
The appointment places Dr. Agbaje at the helm of a major healthcare institution with a long history of serving residents of Surulere and adjoining communities. Established in 1964, Randle General Hospital is one of Lagos State’s oldest public hospitals and provides a wide range of services, including emergency care, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, dentistry, physiotherapy, radiology and maternal healthcare. The facility remains a critical component of the state’s healthcare network and handles thousands of patients annually.
Dr. Agbaje is a respected dental surgeon and healthcare administrator. She holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons in Restorative Dentistry. Over the years, she has held several leadership positions within the Lagos State health system, including serving as Head of the Dental Department at General Hospital Lagos, Head of Dental Services at Randle General Hospital and later Deputy Medical Director before her appointment to lead General Hospital, Apapa.
Her return to Randle General Hospital is viewed by many within the health sector as a homecoming, given her previous years of service at the facility and familiarity with its operations.
Healthcare stakeholders are optimistic that her wealth of experience in hospital administration and service delivery will help consolidate ongoing reforms and further improve patient care, staff welfare and healthcare outcomes at the hospital.
The latest appointment underscores the Lagos State Government’s continued commitment to strengthening public healthcare through strategic leadership placements and institutional reforms aimed at delivering efficient, accessible and quality healthcare services to residents.
With Dr. Agbaje now in charge, expectations are high that Randle General Hospital will continue its transformation journey and build on recent gains recorded in healthcare service delivery across the Surulere axis and beyond.
