President Bola Tinubu touched down in Nairobi, Kenya, in the early hours of Monday as he joined other African leaders for the much-anticipated Africa-France Summit set to begin later in the day.
The Nigerian leader arrived aboard an Airbus A330-200, which landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at about 12:15 a.m. local time, according to a statement issued by the State House media office on Monday morning.
The Kenya visit marks Tinubu’s second trip to the East African nation since July 2023 and forms the next phase of his three-country diplomatic tour. Before arriving in Nairobi, the President had been in France, where he met with international investors and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to economic reforms and fiscal discipline.
The Africa-France Summit, jointly hosted by French President, Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President, William Ruto, will hold from May 11 to May 12.
This year’s summit is themed, “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth,” with discussions expected to centre on energy transition, green industrialisation, digital transformation, climate action and reforms to the global financing system.
The Presidency said Tinubu’s attendance reflects Nigeria’s determination to deepen strategic ties with African countries and France while positioning the nation as a leading investment destination.
During the summit, the President is expected to address participants on his administration’s reform agenda and ongoing efforts to boost economic growth and attract foreign investment.
Tinubu is also scheduled to hold separate high-level meetings with African and global business leaders on the sidelines of the event.
Following the Kenya summit, the Nigerian leader will head to Kigali, Rwanda, for the Africa CEO Forum taking place from May 14 to 15.
He is expected back in Nigeria after the Rwanda engagement, ahead of the APC presidential primary slated for May 23.
