Lebara Enters Nigeria’s Telecom Market With Nationwide Launch

UK-based telecom brand launches as a mobile virtual network operator, offering SIM, eSIM, voice, data and digital services to Nigerian customers.

LAGOS, Nigeria: UK-based telecommunications company Lebara has officially commenced nationwide commercial operations in Nigeria, introducing a new player into the country’s highly competitive mobile telecommunications market.

The company went live commercially on September 14, 2026, allowing Nigerians to access its services through physical SIM cards and eSIMs. Customers can also complete their Know Your Customer (KYC) verification remotely through the My LebaraNG application. https://lebara.ng/

Lebara is entering Nigeria as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Rather than building and maintaining its own nationwide radio network, the company uses existing telecommunications infrastructure. In Nigeria, its services operate on Airtel Nigeria’s network, while Lebara focuses on its products, pricing, digital services and customer experience.Lebara Enters Nigeria’s Telecom Market With Nationwide Launch

VAS2Nets Telecommunications Limited manages the company’s Nigerian operation, holds the relevant MVNO licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and operates the Lebara brand under a licensing agreement.

At launch, Lebara said it had more than 1,000 registered retail agents, with customers able to obtain SIM cards through participating outlets, including Slot stores. The company has also introduced the 0724 number series for its Nigerian subscribers.

Beyond traditional voice calls, SMS and mobile data, Lebara’s initial services include eSIMs, cloud storage, device financing options, usage tracking and LebaraPlay, its mobile entertainment platform. The company is also positioning its digital onboarding process as a key part of its Nigerian offering.

Lebara’s arrival adds another operator to a market dominated by established providers including MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom and 9mobile. It is also only the second commercial MVNO to launch under Nigeria’s current MVNO regulatory framework, following Vitel Wireless, which began commercial operations in 2025.

For Lebara, the Nigerian launch represents its expansion into Africa and an attempt to build a customer base in one of the continent’s largest telecommunications markets.

The company says its focus is on making connectivity more accessible while providing customers with digital services and greater control over how they manage their mobile accounts.
