Michael B. Jordan and Wunmi Mosaku Got Their First Oscar Nods, and Sinners is Making History
Michael B. Jordan and Wunmi Mosaku just scored their first Oscar nominations ever for their roles in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners! Jordan is up for Best Actor, and Mosaku is nominated for Supporting Actress.
This is huge for both of them! And together, they’re part of the Sinners story that has made Oscar history.
Sinners are really cleaning up this year. The supernatural thriller grabbed a record-breaking 16 nominations, beating the old record of 14 held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.
The movie’s competing for Best Picture, Best Director (Ryan Coogler), acting awards for Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Delroy Lindo, plus Original Screenplay, Casting, Production Design, Cinematography, Costume Design, Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound, Visual Effects, Original Score, and Original Song (I Lied to You).
Because of this, Sinners is now one of the few movies to get nominations in every technical category, like Titanic, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Dune. Only Titanic has also gotten a nomination for best original song, until now.
Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman announced the nominees during a live show at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. Conan O’Brien will host the 2026 Oscars for the second time. You can watch it live on ABC and Hulu from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, starting at 4 p.m. PT.
