The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 45-year-old PhD student at the University of Putra, Malaysia, Nwabueze Felix Onyeka, for masterminding a cocaine trafficking syndicate.
The arrest followed a sting operation in Ekwusigo LGA, Anambra State, on Monday, June 29, 2026, after the NDLEA intercepted 36 parcels of cocaine weighing 5.80kg concealed in the walls of nine cartons of Orijin bitters.
The consignment was part of a cargo heading to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Further investigations led to the arrest of four accomplices in Lagos: cargo agent Alalade Taiwo Azeez; driver Ndem Ogbonna Kelechi; ASPANDA trader Okeke Tochukwu Chimezie; and Igwilo Chidi Henry, who supplied the bitters cartons.
Nwabueze was eventually tracked to his hideout in Aziora, Ozubulu, Anambra State, where he was arrested as the alleged leader of the syndicate.
General Buba Marwa (rtd.) praised the officers for dismantling the network and reiterated NDLEA’s commitment to tracking drug barons anywhere in the world.
