The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 10,000 pills of Captagon in Kwara State.
The agency described the seizure as a breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking.
Captagon is a powerful stimulant. It is widely abused in the Middle East. Authorities say it can cause long wakefulness, euphoria, and reduced fear.
It has also been linked to criminal networks and insurgent groups.
Captagon Seizure in Kwara
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the operation took place on April 21, 2026.
Officers were on patrol along Bode Saadu Road when they stopped a trailer.
They arrested a passenger, Nasiru Mu’azu, 33.
A search led to the discovery of:
- 10,000 Captagon pills
- Nine packets of Tapentadol 250mg
The NDLEA said this arrest followed an earlier drug bust at Apapa seaport in Lagos.
This suggests a wider trafficking network.
More Drugs Recovered Days Later
Just three days later, officers made another interception at the same location.
They stopped another trailer and found drugs hidden in a false compartment.
Recovered items included:
- 155,900 capsules of tramadol
- 6,000 ampoules of tramadol injection
- 3,000 tablets of co-codamol
- 9,000 tablets of bromazepam
A 24-year-old suspect, Aminu Isah, was arrested.
Cocaine Smuggling Attempt in Oyo
Meanwhile, in Oyo State, NDLEA officers stopped a commercial bus along the Ibadan/Oyo Expressway.
One passenger, Eze Prince Emeka, 33, was acting suspiciously.
A body scan confirmed he had swallowed drugs.
He later excreted 45 pellets of cocaine. The drugs weighed 1.043 kilograms.
Investigations showed he planned to move the drugs to Europe.
The route was through Sokoto and then Algeria.
Over One Million Pills Seized in Edo
In Edo State, officers intercepted a truck along the Benin/Lagos expressway.
They recovered 1,196,000 pills of pharmaceutical opioids.
Two suspects were arrested:
- Osagie Igbinibo, 43
- Omijie Malik, 44
The drugs were reportedly heading to Onitsha.
Nationwide Operations Continue
NDLEA also reported several seizures across the country.
- Lagos: 810kg of cannabis recovered from a suspect
- Bauchi: 154.5kg of skunk seized
- Ekiti: 466.8kg of skunk found in a house
- Cross River: 20,000kg of cannabis destroyed on farmland
In Niger State, officers recovered 394 items suspected to be parts of explosive devices.
The suspect has been handed over to security agencies.
NDLEA Chairman Speaks
NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, praised the officers involved.
He described the Captagon seizure as a major success.
He also warned that the drug remains dangerous due to its link to violence and insecurity.
