Three state governors are set to receive special recognition at the upcoming Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, one of the country’s biggest celebrations of excellence in the media industry.
The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has announced that Bassey Edet Otu, alongside Dauda Lawal and Uba Sani, will be honoured at the second edition of the The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards.
The ceremony is scheduled for April 8, 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, where leading figures from across Nigeria’s broadcasting sector are expected to gather.
In a statement released on Thursday, BON’s Executive Secretary, Yemisi Bamgbose, explained that the three governors were selected in recognition of their strong support for the media and their contributions to strengthening the broadcasting industry in Nigeria.
The organisation described them as “partners in progress”, praising their commitment to policies and initiatives that encourage the growth of media institutions and uphold professional standards in the sector.
According to BON, the award ceremony will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and marks another milestone in its ongoing mission to celebrate excellence and encourage best practices in Nigerian broadcasting.
BON also noted that preparations for the event took months of planning, emphasising that the awards have become a significant platform within the country’s media landscape.

The organisation stated that the administrations of the three governors have shown remarkable goodwill toward media organisations, helping create an environment where broadcasting can thrive.
BON added that recognising such leadership is important because supportive governance helps strengthen democratic engagement and the free flow of information.
Inside the Awards Selection Process
The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, which received official endorsement from BON’s 74th General Assembly in 2021, have grown into a respected platform for recognising top performers in the broadcast industry.
For the 2026 edition, the organisers revealed that 204 entries were submitted, covering broadcast works produced in 2024.
Entries were carefully reviewed by an Awards Selection Committee led by Danladi Bako, alongside representatives from regulatory bodies and experienced broadcast professionals. BON described the evaluation process as strict, transparent, and in line with the highest industry standards.

Beyond the special recognition for the governors, the event will also reward excellence across 24 competitive categories, including:

Best Reporter
Best Newscaster
Best Producer
BON said the awards will not only celebrate outstanding broadcasters but will also recognise industry veterans whose lifetime contributions have helped shape Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape.
Reaffirming its commitment to the industry, the organisation stated that the ceremony will serve both as a celebration of excellence and a push for higher professional standards in broadcasting across the country.
