Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in the Saturday, August 15, 2026 governorship election.
In a congratulatory message, Obaseki described Adeleke’s victory as a significant reflection of the wishes of the people of Osun State, who, according to him, have chosen to entrust the governor with another four-year mandate.
The former Edo governor said the outcome also demonstrated the power of citizens to defend their democratic choices despite attempts by what he described as “anti-democratic forces” to undermine the will of the people.
Obaseki said the election result sends a message to Nigerians that when citizens stand together with courage, determination and a common purpose, they can protect their democratic choices and compel political leaders to act in the interest of the people.
Drawing from his own political experience, Obaseki said a hard-fought election ultimately determined by the wishes of the electorate serves as an important reminder to public office holders that their loyalty must remain with the people and not privileged interests seeking access to power.
He further congratulated Adeleke on what he described as a well-deserved victory and wished him a successful second term in office.
Obaseki expressed confidence that Adeleke would continue to focus on the development of Osun State and the welfare and aspirations of its people.
