Motorists heading along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations have been urged to brace for delays as the Federal Road Safety Corps warned of heavy traffic congestion caused by massive holiday travel and ongoing road construction.
In a travel advisory released on Sunday via its official X account, the FRSC said the worst-hit area is the Nasarawa-Azara corridor between Katari and Jere, where movement has slowed drastically due to traffic build-up, reckless overtaking and widespread lane indiscipline.
The Agency appealed to drivers to remain calm and obey traffic rules, stressing that patience and discipline are crucial to reducing the gridlock currently affecting the highway.
“Motorists are advised to exercise patience and strict compliance with traffic regulations as the corridor currently experiences heavy congestion due to increased Eid-el-Kabir traffic and ongoing road construction works,” the Corps stated.
According to the FRSC, the Nasarawa-Azara axis remains the most affected stretch, with traffic conditions deteriorating further because of dangerous overtaking and motorists refusing to stay within their lanes.
To help ease movement, the Corps advised travellers moving between Abuja and Kaduna to use the Kaduna-Kachia-Maraban Kubacha-Jere-Bwari-Dutse Abuja route, and vice versa.
The Agency also warned motorists against reckless driving habits capable of worsening traffic and triggering accidents.
“The Corps also urges all road users to maintain lane discipline, avoid one-way driving, obey traffic officials, and drive responsibly,” it added, assuring Nigerians of its commitment to safer travel during the festive season.
Meanwhile, the FRSC announced the launch of nationwide Special Patrol Operations ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, with more than 30,000 personnel deployed across the country.
The operation, scheduled to run from May 25 to May 31, 2026, is part of the Corps’ annual strategy to strengthen road safety, manage traffic congestion and improve emergency response during periods of high travel activity.
The FRSC said the exercise is aimed at reducing crashes, fatalities and other highway emergencies while ensuring smoother movement for Nigerians travelling during the Sallah festivities.
