Motorists heading to Lagos Island on Monday should expect major traffic changes as the state government rolls out temporary road closures for the vibrant Lagos Fanti Carnival.
The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture announced that several key routes around Lagos Island will be restricted from 7:00 a.m. to ensure a smooth and secure carnival procession.
According to the Ministry, the affected roads include King George V Road at the Mobil Filling Station junction, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street near the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street by St. Nicholas Hospital.
Officials explained that the temporary closures are necessary to maintain order and safety as thousands of spectators and participants are expected to gather along the Lagos Island corridor for the annual cultural celebration.
Residents and motorists have been advised to plan their trips ahead of time and make use of alternative routes while the restrictions are in place.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has already mapped out diversion plans to ease movement and minimise congestion around the carnival area.
Under the traffic arrangement
Vehicles coming from Obalende toward Onikan Roundabout will be diverted to Zone 2. Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp toward McEwen Bridge, and those heading from Flagstaff House to Tafawa Balewa Square, will be redirected to Obalende Bridge.
Vehicles approaching from Outer Marina toward TBS will also be diverted through Obalende Bridge.
The ministry noted that the traffic plan was carefully designed to reduce disruption for commuters and businesses operating within Lagos Island during the festivities.
While acknowledging that the closures may cause temporary inconvenience, the government appealed for patience and cooperation from residents and road users to ensure a successful event
