Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has addressed the growing outrage over persistent blackouts, offering an apology to citizens and assuring that steps are already in motion to improve electricity supply across the country.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Adelabu admitted that the unstable power situation has taken a toll on Nigerians, especially as the dry season heat continues to intensify. He noted that homes, businesses, schools, and industries have all felt the strain.
“I sincerely apologise to Nigerians for the inconvenience this situation has caused, particularly at a time like this when the heat is intense and daily activities are being disrupted,” he said.
The minister pointed out that some of the issues affecting power supply are outside the government’s direct control, but emphasised that efforts are ongoing around the clock to fix the situation and restore stability.
“This is not where we want to be, but certain challenges are beyond us. That said, we are fully committed and working tirelessly to get things back on track, especially building on the progress we made in 2025,” he added.
Adelabu also reassured Nigerians that the current difficulties won’t last long, expressing confidence that improvements will be seen soon.
- “Last year, Nigerians acknowledged the improvements we made. That shows what we’re capable of. This year, we aim to do even better. I want to assure everyone that in the coming weeks, the situation will significantly improve,” he said.
His apology comes as frustration continues to mount nationwide, with many Nigerians demanding urgent and lasting solutions to the ongoing power challenges affecting everyday life and economic activities.
