“We’re Being Held for Nothing” – Nigerian Media Personality Cries Out From South African Airport.

A Nigerian media personality, Yemi Firstson, has raised alarm online after claiming that he and three other Nigerians were detained without explanation at O.R. Tambo International Airport.

According to the broadcaster, the group was stopped by authorities at the airport despite having valid travel documents and visas. He alleged that they were singled out from other passengers and taken into detention without being given a clear reason.

Yemi shared the claim in a post on X, saying the situation had left them stranded and unable to communicate freely. He stated that one of the group members had his phone confiscated for several hours and was prevented from contacting anyone.

The media personality also alleged that officials were attempting to seize his own phone, prompting him to quickly post about the situation before losing access to it.

In the message, he called on the public to help amplify the issue and tag relevant authorities, warning that the group feared for their safety while in detention.

Yemi further stated that he and the others had requested permission to book another flight back to Nigeria immediately, but claimed their request had been refused by airport officials.

He said the uncertainty surrounding their situation had made him uncomfortable and eager to leave the country as soon as possible.

As of the time of this report, authorities in South Africa had not publicly responded to the allegations or clarified the circumstances surrounding the reported detention.
