ILORIN — Panic has gripped several rural communities in Kwara State after armed bandits launched terrifying late-night attacks, abducting multiple residents and leaving others wounded in a wave of violence that unfolded almost simultaneously across different villages.
The coordinated raids, which happened on Wednesday night, targeted three communities — Iwo Odo-Ore, Gaa-Idera, and Gaa Dembo-Agunjin — located within the Isin and Ifelodun Local Government Areas. According to local sources, the attackers moved through the communities shooting sporadically and causing chaos as terrified villagers fled for safety. Yunusa, who runs schools in both Oke-Onigbin and Lagos State, was said to have been preparing for an important family event when the attackers struck his residence. Family members disclosed that he had already finalised plans for his child’s Islamic graduation ceremony, known as Walimoh, scheduled to hold in Lagos on Saturday.

The attack in Gaa-Idera was especially heartbreaking because the community had been preparing for a wedding ceremony. Witnesses said the bandits specifically targeted people connected to the upcoming celebration.
“They kidnapped the bride’s mother and another person during the attack,” a local source revealed, adding that the gunmen also made away with several cattle. Throughout the raids, the attackers reportedly fired gunshots to scare residents and prevent any form of resistance.
More Attacks In Gaa-Odera As Fears Grow
In another nearby community, Gaa-Odera, the violence reportedly continued as the gunmen fired indiscriminately at fleeing residents. A security official said two people were shot during the incident while two others were abducted.
The scale and coordination of the attacks have raised fresh fears about the growing activities of armed groups in the Kwara South senatorial district, an area that has increasingly faced security concerns in recent months.
